AirMagnet Enterprise First Wireless Intrusion Prevention Solution to be FIPS 140-2 Certified

AirMagnet protects sensitive information in accordance with stringent federal standard

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sep 26, 2005 — AirMagnet, Inc., the leader in wireless LAN (WLAN) security and performance solutions, announced its AirMagnet Enterprise SmartEdge Sensor and its software algorithms have been certified as Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 compliant. As the only vendor-independent wireless security solution to achieve FIPS 140-2 certification, AirMagnet Enterprise is the leading choice for government agencies and other organizations and enterprises tasked with guaranteeing the integrity of highly sensitive data.

"FIPS 140-2 is a mandatory requirement for our government and high-security customers, signifying that strategic data-in-motion is safe from attack or eavesdropping," said Oscar Fuster, vice president of engineering services for iGov. "AirMagnet Enterprise is not only feature-rich but now more secure than uncertified products-it detects and responds to more wireless exploits than any other wireless security solution and is better qualified to protect our customers' highly confidential data."

FIPS 140-2 is a government standard published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) defining security requirements for technology products handling sensitive information. FIPS 140-2 certification assures that the cryptography used to transfer secure information as well as the sensor appliance itself meet rigorous testing and can not easily be compromised. The FIPS 140-2 standard has been adopted by the U.S. government and Canada 's Communication Security Establishment (CSE) and is widely recognized in Europe and Australia . FIPS 140-2-compliant products are commonly used in federal and financial organizations, due to the sensitivity of the information they handle.

"FIPS certification is not easy to achieve-we're the first company in our category to attain it-and this is an extremely significant step for us," said Dean Au, president and CEO of AirMagnet. "Our compliance with the FIPS standard assures federal agencies, financial organizations and other customers dealing with highly sensitive data that our technology will effectively keep their information secure."

AirMagnet customers-more than 4,000 organizations, including numerous financial and government agencies-use AirMagnet solutions to secure their wireless networks and prevent the exposure of sensitive data. AirMagnet Enterprise hardens wireless networks against more than 130 different types of security and performance threats, detects wireless attacks, pinpoints security vulnerabilities and enforces security policies. Organizations observing "no wireless" policies also use AirMagnet to secure their perimeter and monitor to ensure that no wireless equipment penetrates their network.
