FIPS 140-2 is a government standard published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) defining security requirements for technology products handling sensitive information. FIPS 140-2 certification assures that the cryptography used to transfer secure information as well as the sensor appliance itself meet rigorous testing and can not easily be compromised. The FIPS 140-2 standard has been adopted by the U.S. government and Canada 's Communication Security Establishment (CSE) and is widely recognized in Europe and Australia .
